Newton's Nook Inky Paws Challenge #39 - Newton Loves Coffee

I always look forward to a card challenge, especially when my mojo seems to be in a slump.  The challenges seem to get the brain waves moving again.  One of this month's challenges over at Newton's Nook, Inky Paws Challenge #39, is just simply "Use a Heart".

I don't own any heart dies, but I knew I wanted to create one in the background and use the Newton Loves Coffee set to add a kitty.  I decided to see if I could cut out a mask using my Brother ScanNCut.  I normally use the SNC for my fabric appliqué pieces and after playing with some vinyl over the weekend, I thought I should be able to cut out masking paper in pretty much the same way as the vinyl.  After all, they both are a protective sheet on the back, they are both thin materials and my machine was already set up with pretty much the correct settings.  Much to my surprise, I achieved the perfect cut on the first try.

I used the negative piece of masking paper and covered the front of my panel, then sponged on distress ink to make an  ombre heart in red tones.  Sprayed the heart with water and wiped it up to get the distressed look.  I used a couple of cool gray markers to create a shadow on the left side of the heart.  I stamped the kitty in copic sale ink on Neenah Solar White, colored him/her with various warm gray makers and the coffee maker with a couple of teal colors.  I used a couple of dies from both Lawn Fawn and Simon Says Stamp, as well as some papers from My Favorite Things.

I needed to bring in more of the teal color, so I used some rhinestones that I had in my stash and colored them with my BG13 Copic.

Thank for stopping by!
